OncoAmerica Cancer Care Centers is going through an expansion that will conclude with our opening of our Guadalajara cancer care center early next year. Cancer, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), will double to 15 million new cases worldwide by the year 2020. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) published a report in early 2003 that $2.5 billion dollars will be required to equip the developing world with Radioncology centers to combat this increase in cancer cases. OncoAmerica has had its vision in developing centers in Latin America because of the great existing need from Mexico to most countries in South America. In Central America, only Costa Rica and Panama have centers equipped with the necessary technologies. Guatemala is now starting to move to modernize its private centers. Mexico, a great country, with many excellent centers of care, has fallen behind in cancer care and only a couple of private centers have the necessary technology to provide quality cancer care.
Our goal is to fill the needs in countries where quality care is missing and where private and public insurance can pay for our services since these technologies are very expensive and can not survive without a strong economic base. Mexico, Brazil and about six more countries have been identified as good markets with great needs and where our vision and technologies will make the greatest impact. Recently, OncoAmerica has been approached by medical professionals in India, Albania, Turkey, The Philippines, Bangladesh, Egypt and Iran. We are now researching these markets for possible expansion outside of the American Continent. Our five year plan calls for expansion in Latin America and in the U.S. where many rural and urban areas are neglected and where patients have to travel for hours to get to the only center in the area. We have identified two markets in the U.S. where in late 2005 to early 2006 we should be opening our first cancer care centers.
For now our concentration is in Mexico and the development of the best and biggest cancer care center in Latin America due to open in late 2005 in the city of Maracaibo, Venezuela where we will have an integrated center that will treat the patient needs completely.
